Frankfurt Airport (IATA: FRA), officially Frankfurt am Main Airport, is Germany's largest and busiest airport and Europe's fourth busiest by passenger traffic. Located approximately 12 kilometres southwest of Frankfurt city centre, it handled over 65 million passengers in 2024 and connects Frankfurt to 283 destinations served by 88 airlines — including more intercontinental routes than any other European airport. The airport is the primary hub for Lufthansa and a major Star Alliance connecting point, as well as the principal gateway for intercontinental arrivals to Germany from North America, Asia, and the Middle East.
Major 2026 development: Terminal 3 opened on 22 April 2026, adding significant new capacity and a new pickup and drop-off zone connected to Terminal 1 via the SkyLine automated transit in approximately 8 minutes. This new terminal is now handling an expanding roster of airline operations — confirm your terminal when booking to ensure your driver is correctly positioned.
The airport has excellent rail connections — S-Bahn lines S8 and S9 run to Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof in approximately 15 minutes, and the Fernbahnhof long-distance station beneath Terminal 1 provides direct ICE connections to Cologne (1 hour), Munich (3 hours 15 minutes), and Berlin (4 hours). However, for destinations beyond Frankfurt's central corridor, for arrivals with luggage, and for corporate and diplomatic travellers with schedule-critical commitments, private chauffeur remains the most reliable and direct option.

* Approximate times under normal traffic. The A3/A5/A66 approaches to Frankfurt are congested during weekday peak hours (07:30–09:30 and 17:00–19:30). Messe Frankfurt trade fair opening and closing days create significant additional congestion around the fairgrounds.
Frankfurt's new Terminal 3, opened 22 April 2026, is located on the opposite side of the runway field from Terminals 1 and 2 and connected via the SkyLine automated transit (approximately 8 minutes from Terminal 1). It is now handling a growing range of airline operations as the airport redistributes traffic across its expanded capacity. Passengers arriving at Terminal 3 have a dedicated pickup zone with direct access from the arrivals hall. If your flight operates from Terminal 3, specify this at booking — the pickup procedure differs from Terminals 1 and 2 and your driver will be positioned at the T3 arrivals exit, not the main terminal complex.

Terminal 1 handles Lufthansa and all Star Alliance member airlines — including United, Singapore Airlines, ANA, Swiss, Austrian, Turkish Airlines, and Condor. Terminal 2 handles all other carriers including British Airways, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Ryanair, easyJet, Wizz Air, and Air France. Terminal 3, opened in April 2026, is absorbing additional airline operations as the airport redistributes its traffic. Confirm your terminal from your boarding pass when booking — the driver pickup zone differs significantly between terminals.
Messe Frankfurt is approximately 13 to 15 kilometres from the airport — approximately 15 to 22 minutes by private chauffeur under normal conditions via the A3/A5 and the Messe approach roads. On trade fair opening days, congestion on the approach routes and at the Messe entrances can extend this to 30 to 45 minutes. Plan ahead for the first day of any major trade fair.
