Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD) — Europe's Gateway to the Americas

Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (IATA: MAD) is Spain's largest and busiest airport, Europe's sixth busiest by passenger traffic, and the continent's primary hub for connections to Latin America. It handled over 60 million passengers in 2024, serving 170+ international destinations across five continents from its four terminal complex in the Barajas district, approximately 12 kilometres northeast of central Madrid.

The airport's terminal structure is one of the most important operational details for any traveller: the complex is divided into two physically separate groups. Terminals 1, 2, and 3 (T1/T2/T3) are within walking distance of each other (approximately 10 minutes on foot) and handle non-Iberia international and European traffic — SkyTeam carriers, Star Alliance partners, low-cost airlines including Vueling and easyJet, Air Europa, and most non-oneworld airlines. Terminal 4 and Terminal 4 Satellite (T4/T4S) is a separate complex approximately 6 kilometres from T1/T2/T3, handling exclusively Iberia and all oneworld alliance partner airlines — British Airways, American Airlines, Qatar Airways, Cathay Pacific, and all long-haul intercontinental Iberia operations. T4 and T4S are connected internally by an automated underground transit (APM) in 3 minutes. T4 to T1/T2/T3 requires the free inter-terminal shuttle bus (approximately 10 minutes).

This terminal separation is critical for private chauffeur logistics. A driver positioned at T1 cannot collect a passenger at T4 without a 10-minute transit. Always specify your arrival terminal — or your operating airline — when booking, so your driver is positioned at the correct terminal exit.

How It Works

  • Flight tracking — your driver monitors your flight from departure, adjusting to your actual landing at no extra charge
  • Meet and greet — your driver waits in the arrivals hall at the correct terminal with a name sign, assists with luggage, and escorts you to the vehicle
  • Terminal precision — T4/T4S for Iberia and oneworld (British Airways, American, Qatar, Cathay Pacific, LATAM, etc.); T1/T2/T3 for all other airlines. Specify your airline when booking
  • Fixed price confirmed in advance — no meter, no surge pricing
  • Door to door — direct to any Madrid address, or any Spanish or European destination

* Approximate times under normal traffic. The M-11, M-40, and M-30 ring road approaches to Madrid can be significantly congested during weekday peak hours (08:00–10:00 and 17:30–20:00). During major events at IFEMA (FITUR, ARCO) and Champions League nights, allow additional time on routes to and from both the airport and the affected venues.

T4/T4S vs T1/T2/T3 — The Critical Terminal Distinction

Madrid-Barajas has a terminal separation that surprises many first-time visitors: T4 and T4S are 6 kilometres from T1, T2, and T3. The free inter-terminal shuttle takes approximately 10 minutes. For private chauffeur collections, this means:

  • Flying Iberia, British Airways, American Airlines, Qatar Airways, Cathay Pacific, Royal Jordanian, or any oneworld airline? → Your arrival is at T4 or T4S. Your driver positions at T4 arrivals
  • Flying Lufthansa, Air France, KLM, Emirates, United, Delta, Vueling, easyJet, Air Europa, or any non-oneworld airline? → Your arrival is at T1, T2, or T3. Your driver positions at the relevant T1/T2/T3 arrivals exit
  • T4S specifically — non-Schengen long-haul Iberia arrivals (from New York, Latin America, Asia) use T4S. After landing, passengers take the APM underground transit to T4 main terminal (3 minutes) before exiting landside. Expect 45 to 75 minutes from landing to arrivals exit for non-EU passport holders

Specify your operating airline when booking — we determine the correct terminal and position your driver accordingly.

IFEMA — The Airport-Adjacent Congress Advantage

IFEMA (Feria de Madrid) is located immediately adjacent to Madrid-Barajas Airport — approximately 5 kilometres and 10 to 18 minutes by private chauffeur. This makes IFEMA arguably the most airport-convenient major congress venue in continental Europe. For trade fair attendees flying in to MAD for a single-day visit to FITUR or ARCO, the transfer from aircraft to IFEMA pavilion can be completed in under 30 minutes including baggage collection. We provide both airport-to-IFEMA direct transfers and full-day disposal for delegate programmes requiring mobility between the fair and city hotels throughout the event day.
